Why Read this Book?

Ashley Summers is the books main character. She manuevers through never ending racial undertones in her relationship with her boyfriend/turned husband Adisa. She experiences things most White people never get exposed to and it's very interesting how she handles these experiences. Plus, they each have to come to terms with the extent that our societal programming of different cultures impacts their relationship. Ashley also deals with her self esteem issues. She learns how to come to terms with her feelings, something she has never done before. She also struggles to control her anxiety and depression, two more issues that are very wide spread in this society.

Maybe there's someone out there who has had similar experiences?

Reverse Racism?

Someone I was talking to today about my book listened to my explanation about how Ashley, the main character in the book, who is a young White woman, experiences a difficult time once she relocates to the Bay Area. Once there, her work and social life is in a predominantly Black environment. She has a difficult time fitting in and understanding how to respond and function. As I explained this, the person I was talking to defined what I was talking about as reverse racism. That posed a question in my mind.

What is reverse racism? By the very term, the implication is that there is a system of racism that is against some segment of the population. So, reverse racism must be when the people subjected to racism turn around and practice the same things against the people who practiced racism against them? When White people have difficulty being in social situations with people of color is that what reverse racism is? How does it compare to racism? Is it exactly the same except from a different side. Are there differences? If there are, what are they? What are some examples of reverse racism? That's a great place to start I guess. Can anyone provide examples of reverse racism?

The book to read in 2011!

"Find the Flower that Blossoms!" My pride and joy! After spending two years (and I mean four or five days per week at two or three hours per day) I finally achieved my dream of completing the novel I was working on! I then did a lot of research on how to get it published. I read books, articles, online publications, etc. Then, I started to "pitch" my manuscript to agents and publishers. After about three and 1/2 months I actually started to receive some interest and in October, Publish America agreed to publish my book! Now based on the television version of success this story should be over right? Dead wrong!! The real work was just beginning!
